WE BEGAN BY ASKING HOW GROWTH COULD BE GENTLY GUIDED RATHER THAN CONTROLLED. THROUGH CNC MILLING, WE CREATED A ROOT INSPIRED TEMPLATE, CARVING A LANDSCAPE OF PATHWAYS THAT RESONATED WITH PATTERNS OF ORGANIC GROWTH. LOCAL VARIETY GRAIN SEEDS WERE GROWN ACROSS ITS SURFACE, AND SLOWLY, THEIR ROOTS GERMINATED AND GREW INTO THE MOLD, FILLING THE GEOMETRY WITH LIVING THREADS. ONCE REMOVED AND LEFT TO DRY, THE ROOTS RETAINED THE PATTERN LEAVING A FRAGILE MEMORY OF THE FORM THAT SHAPED THEM.

FOR THIS STUDY, WE SELECTED A LOCAL VARIETY OF WHEAT FOR ITS RESILIENCE TO THAILAND'S TROPICAL CLIMATE, ALLOWING THE ROOTS TO GROW VIGOROUSLY INTO THE CNC-MILLED GROOVES.
